Looking Back in Retrospect to 1995 ...
by LoveUniHateExams ini very much enjoyed reading through titch's thread: 'looking back in retrospect to 1975 ...' and all the comments from posters that lived through that event and remembered it.. i was born in 1979, so had nothing to offer for that thread.. however, i do remember very clearly living through 1995 (the end of the 1914 generation) and remember how it affected me and my view of the wts.
up until oct/nov 1995, i genuinely believed the society to be god's one true earthly organisation.
the watchtower presenting the new meaning of generation seriously shook my faith in the wts and, i suppose, started me on my journey to ttatt.

I remember as a young teenager, pre-1995 change arguing with my mom that I could mathematically figure out when the end was coming. I thought ok the 1914 generation will still be around so if Armageddon doesn't come by 2000 it isn't coming at all! She of course said no it doesn't work like that but it's coming soon! Pre 1995 all the parents in my hall would tell all of us kids "you'll never graduate high school" after the change all that talk stopped. When they did change it I just thought, ok they don't really know what Jesus said so they're going with a kinda general vague answer. When the overlapping change happened that's when it dawned on me..wait...God isn't directing everything these guys say!? It truly was the trigger for me to wake up. -

An excellent, very civil debate between an atheist and a JW.
by Island Man ini stumbled upon this video while doing my periodic youtube search of the keyword "jehovah".
in the video a jw (actually two jws, but only one does most of the speaking) debate an atheist.
the atheist is a mild-mannered iranian who at first seems deceptively easy and clueless (i think it has to do with the fact that english is not his first language), but soon proves he's no walkover - calmly, mildly and civilly.

I watched that several days ago, I follow his Twitter feed. I emailed him after watching the video and we talked about the witnesses, I filled him in on some of their beliefs. He's a really nice guy and hopefully he's going to post another video of them. If anyone is interested, another guy does secret recording while talking to jw's, search, talk beliefs on YouTube or Twitter and you'll find him. -

LDS..he seems to have some very slight facial hair going on maybe? And as all the fine members of the forum know, jehovah hates facial hair! So based on that I'm going LDS, that and I made it a matter of prayer and pretty sure God told me he's LDS. -

Will the resurrected marry/have children?
by davidmitchell ini have just finished reading 'brock talon's' two books.
in one of them, entitled journey to god's house, pub.
he comments on how the wt's pictures of the post-armageddon world do not agree with their doctrines, namely that those who are physically resurrected will not marry/have children.

I agree with jw_rogue. The big a was supposed to be here years ago and as the jw population grows older they don't want to think about the teaching that if you die in this system, no sexy time for you in the paradise. A few years ago I had a elder tell me he just knew jehovah was going to let him get married again to his recently deceased wife when she got resurrected. -

Geoffrey Jackson compares waiting for Armageddon to waiting for Brazil to score a goal against Argentina!

Fun at The WT This Morning
by OneFingerSalute inso ofs was at the wt this morning, and on par.
14 the question was, "what trust can a faithful christian whose relative is disfellowshipped have?".
after awhile when no one else raised their hands ofs did, and was called on.. ofs commented, "one of jw can have the trust that god will lovingly give them the ability to uphold the disfellowshipping arrangement by totally shunning family members.".

Back in the Basement
by LostGeneration inlooks like the faithful jws are back in the basement, the oct 15th wt has this image on page 9. but now the lights have been turned out!
i guess the persecution is really kicking in if the electric company has shut off their electricity, or the jws are really, really paranoid that the government is gonna get them if they have the lights on!.
only one guy is smart enough to use his tablet (far right), the rest of the jws are old school, using a lantern to read their bibles in the dark!

This reminds me of what a jw relative recently said. She was looking through family pictures with her daughter on her iPad, when her daughter asked, "mom will we have our iPads in the new system?" Without missing a beat she said, "of course we will!!" I think many jw's think paradise will be like life today except they won't have to go to work, pay bills, and deal with non-witnesses. Other than that they'll still go to Costco, shop at target and vacation at the beach.
